Susan Bae

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Executive Pastry Chef Susan Bae was named North America’s Best Pastry Chef 2025 by 50 World’s Best, is a 2026 James Beard award winner for Outstanding Pastry Chef and/or Baker, a RAMW Finalist (2024, 2025, 2026), and a James Beard Foundation WELS member. Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, Cherry Bombe, Eater, The New York Times Magazine, and Pastry Arts Magazine. A founding member of Moon Rabbit — named Esquire’s Best New Restaurant 2022, The New York Times’ “America’s Best Restaurant” 2024, and Washingtonian’s #4 Best Restaurant 2024 — she helped shape the restaurant from its earliest days.

With more than a decade of experience spanning California, Texas, and Washington, D.C., Susan is celebrated for desserts that draw inspiration from nature, nostalgia, and unconventional savory flavors, reimagining tradition through both classic and modern techniques. At Moon Rabbit, she leads an all-female pastry team where every cook’s voice has a place on the menu, and she continues to champion her community by supporting organizations such as World Central Kitchen, Chefs Stopping AAPI Hate, and House of Ruth.
